New Updates
Send video messages in Google Chat
Oct, 2024
What's Changing
Earlier this year, we announced voice messages in Google Chat, giving users a new way to communicate with others more effectively. Today, we are introducing video messages in Chat, a new capability that helps you save time, convey more information, add tone or emphasis, and can be useful in a number of scenarios, such as:
Sales or customer support team members sending video updates about new features or account changes.
Executives sharing company-wide announcements or strategic updates, fostering transparency and engagement across the organization.
Team members sending a video with outstanding updates in lieu of attending a live meeting.
New document tabs in Google Docs provide a better way to organize your documents
Oct, 2024
What's Changing
Introducing document tabs in Google Docs, a new feature to help you organise longer documents, centralise information, and make collaboration easier.
You can now use tabs to draft and build content in a way that makes it possible for you to find what you’re looking for quickly and stay on task. Plus, readers can navigate through your document with ease and focus on sections that matter most to them.
Tabs in Docs can be particularly useful when you need to break down long, structured documents into smaller, more digestible sections. For example:
A project manager can create a tab for budget, roles and responsibilities, goals, and key dates so that their working team can stay on track.
A team manager can keep a record of routine documentation, such as recurring meeting notes, agendas, performance reviews, and quarterly planning updates.
Within each tab, you can also create subtabs to add even more structure to your document. For instance, a budget tab could include subtabs for travel expenses and agency fees, or a team makeup tab could include subtabs explaining each team’s roles and responsibilities.
New beta available that restricts access to folders in Google Drive
Sep, 2024
What's Changing
Today, we’re introducing a beta that allows shared drive managers to restrict folders to specific users within a shared drive. This provides shared drive managers with greater flexibility to keep relevant content within a single shared drive, while restricting access to shared folders with sensitive information.
A folder with “limited access” can only be opened by people who have been added to it directly. People with general access to the shared drive or shared folder can see the restricted folder in Drive, but will not be able to open it.
Adding multi-monitor support to Google Slides
Sep, 2024
What's Changing
Starting today, we’re making it easier to view your Google Slides presentation controls on your computer while presenting to an audience using a connected external monitor or projector.
Multi-monitor support enables presenters to see Presentation View components, such as speaker notes and the timer, on one display, while displaying the slides presentation on an external monitor.
Why it matters
This updated experience helps you present with greater confidence and gives you more control when managing multiple presentation displays.
Google Sheets tables are now integrated with conditional notifications
Sep, 2024
What's Changing
Earlier this year, we introduced tables in Google Sheets, a feature that accelerates spreadsheet building by formatting and organizing your data into a polished design with column types, filters, color coding, dropdown menus and more. A month later, we added conditional notifications to provide you with greater visibility into spreadsheet changes most relevant to your workflow via email notifications.
To bring these features closer together, we’re excited to announce a new integration between conditional notifications and tables in Sheets.
As a result:
Conditional notification rules can now be directly applied to tables and will recognize table column names.
All tables now come with a new, easy entry point to conditional notifications in the controls header.
Common conditional notifications will now be built-in to pre-built tables by default and can be enabled with a single click.
Customise your Google Docs with polished cover images
Sep, 2024
What's Changing
We’re making it easy for you to personalize and differentiate documents with full-bleed cover images that extend from one edge of your document to the other.
Whether you’re customizing a document for a customer with industry themes, personalizing an onboarding document for a new employee or building a virtual brochure for your company’s products, cover images help set the tone for a document by adding relevant visuals.
You can add cover images from our curated gallery or upload your own image. To insert, you can either:
Click the new “Cover image” chip at the top of your Doc (similar to the ones introduced last year).
Go to Insert > Cover image > Upload from computer or Choose from stock images.
Type “@” followed by Cover image > Upload from computer or Choose from stock images.
Send quick email to all collaborators from within the document.

What's Changing
Once a file is shared, you have the option to “notify” someone when they’ve been added to view, comment on, or edit a file. We’re building upon this by introducing the ability to send an email to any collaborator if you are a file owner or editor. This is especially useful if you’ve recently made updates to the content or if you’d like to pose a question to the group. To email collaborators, click “Share” > click on the “Email people on this file” icon next to “People with access” > select the email recipients and add a custom message.
Picture-in-picture in Google Meet will now open automatically when switching tabs
Aug, 2024
What's Changing
Have you ever lost your video screen after switching to another tab? Google Meet’s picture-in-picture feature helps to solve that problem, but now we’ve made it even easier. Picture-in-picture mode will now automatically trigger when you switch tabs during a meeting. Previously, you had to manually turn on this feature during a meeting. This simple, yet impactful update, will help ensure your meeting stays visible and accessible if you need to switch tabs to take notes, view meeting related documents, and more. Note that picture-in-picture is only available with Google Chrome on a computer.

What’s changing
Today, we’re excited to introduce the latest series of changes that accelerate user productivity across new views in Drive. A new streamlined homepage for Drive called Home makes it easier and faster for you to find files that matter most. Specifically, you’ll notice:
Personalized file and folder suggestions with machine learning algorithms that can help you get started quickly. These suggestions utilize a variety of signals, such as what files or folders you’ve recently opened, shared or edited, or what documents are attached to upcoming Calendar events.
Filter chips to narrow down your search and find relevant files faster across Drive, making it easy to find suggested files by type, people, modified date or the location.
A more modern design inline with Google Material Design 3 guidelines that helps you navigate across Drive much more efficiently.
When you go to drive.google.com, instead of landing in ‘My Drive’ you will now be directed to ‘Home.’ If you would like to set your default to ‘My Drive,’ click on the “Change to My Drive” option in the banner on Home:
